Geography

Welcome to the Geography page on our website.  Mrs Wells is our Geography leader and she has prepared an intent statement below.  The geography that is covered in school can be found on the long term curriculum plan here.

Intent Statement

Our Geography curriculum aims to give all children a sense of place; an understanding of where they live within the wider world.  We seek to create a love of geography; to inspire in our children a sense of awe and wonder; a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people, that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.

Geography is an investigative subject, which develops an understanding of concepts, knowledge and skills.  We are committed to providing children with opportunities to investigate and make enquiries about their local area so that they can develop of real sense of who they are, their heritage and what makes our local area unique and special. They will develop a deep understanding about what our local area has to offer and compare and contrast that to places in the rest of the UK, Europe and beyond.  Through our teaching of geography, we aim to expand their geographical vocabulary and promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

We strive to provide opportunities, wherever possible, for all children to experience learning beyond the classroom, using the local area and community to develop their geographical skills and deepen their knowledge through first-hand experiences and fieldwork.  All pupils will be encouraged to ask questions, think critically and develop their own sense of perspective of the world.

By deepening our children’s knowledge of geography, we will help them to understand how the world has grown and changed over time, the diversity of people’s lives and the possibility for us to live sustainability for the future.
