SEND and Inclusion

At St Theresa’s Catholic Primary School, we provide an inclusive environment in which all children with SEND are educated alongside their peers and can participate fully in educational experiences. We actively identify any barriers to learning at the earliest opportunity to achieve the best possible outcomes for children. We are committed to high achievement for all, supporting children and their families through SEND provision and personalised learning. Our provision and intervention meets each child’s individual educational and well-being needs, enabling them to access a broad and balanced curriculum.

St Theresa’s has an SEN Studio Space and an Outdoor Classroom / Forest School, which supports children to manage their social, emotional and wellbeing needs. Our sensory room and sensory circuits enable children to manage their movement and sensory needs.

Staff are trained how to support children across the range of SEND needs. Training has included trauma informed practice, autism level 1 and 2, behaviour as communication, restorative practice, emotion coaching, adaptive teaching and zones of regulation.  Zones of Regulation is used as an approach across school for children to understand their emotions. Many children use zones of regulation toolkits to support emotional development. Our wellbeing lead and our child and family practitioner work with children who need more targeted support.

The school makes use of a number of outside agencies including The Inclusion Advisory Team, The East Area Inclusion partnership, Educational Psychologists, STARS Autism Support Team, Occupational Therapists and School Nurses. Our Catholic Care worker provides therapeutic intervention alongside out nurture provision. Our Speech and Language Therapist provides speech and language support one day a week.

To meet physical needs, we have an accessible hygiene suite, a lift and accessible school grounds.
