St Theresa’s Feast Day 2017 and Mini Vinnies Commissioning Ceremony

This year, St Theresa’s feast day falls on a Sunday so we celebrated our patron saint’s special day on Friday 29th September with a wonderful mass in school.

At the end of Mass our new Mini Vinnies  had a short commissioning ceremony to mark the beginning of a new year working with the SVP Society.

Being in the Mini Vinnies is about doing good works in the community, but it is also about our young people meeting to talk, to share ideas and concerns, to have fun and to support each other. The Vinnies model of ‘See,Think, Do’ is a great way to get young people thinking and talking about their spirituality,  connecting their beliefs and values with service  in their community can help to make their faith real, meaningful and relevant.

The Good Shepherd Celebration Service

(St Anne’s Cathedral, 19th May 2017)

A group of Y3 children represented our school at the Good Shepherd Celebration Service in  St Anne’s Cathedral. They were able to present a cheque for £1100 to  Bishop Marcus and he asked them to thank everyone at St Theresa’s for their generosity during the Lent fund-raising.

Many thanks to Alexander, Fergus, Libby, Rhiana and Ruby  who took part – they were extremely well-behaved during quite a lengthy service!

Silver Jubilee Celebrations!

Many congratulations to Father Ghebreyesus, who is celebrating 25 years in the priesthood! He is a very important part of the St Theresa’s family and we are very grateful for his hard work. The children presented him with a framed picture and a wonderful hand-made card. We hope he will continue to work with us for many years to come!

The Month of Mary

Many of our children took part in the Crowning of Mary at our churches on the first Sunday of May. It’s great to see this tradition being carried on in our parish – many thanks to the Children’s Liturgy teams!

Decorated Egg competition 2017

Many thanks to all the children who entered the decorated egg competition organised by Y3 as part of our Lenten fund-raising  – and to mums and dads who helped a bit! We were inundated with wonderful entries from Foundation right through to Y6. At the last count we had raised about £100 and there was still a bit more to come in – thank you so much for all your support!

Judge Rowbottom and Judge Collins – brought in at great expense – had the unenviable job of choosing winners. You are ALL winners, but the judges chose Freya Ellis (2GL) to take home the KS1 Easter egg, and Lucy Waldron (3LC) as the KS2 prize winner. Amelie Wolstenholme (6KH) was the overall winner of the competition with her amazing model of ‘Our Eggstraordinary School’.

KS1 prize winner Freya Ellis with her model of Jesus

KS2 prize winner Lucy Waldron with her model of St Gregory’s Church – complete with Father G, congregation and furniture!

Amelie Wolstenholme was a worthy winner of the overall prize with her magnificent model of the school. She had spent a very long time working on it!

We hope you enjoy looking at our photos of many of the other entries too!

Our visit to Ripon Cathedral

Mrs Crowley, Mrs Childerson and some of our wonderful children were lucky enough to be able to visit Ripon Cathedral for a very special Mass. The children were a real credit to the school and to their families and behaved perfectly all the way through…the Bishop even came over and talked to them before Mass started!
Mrs Crowley, Mrs Childerson and the whole school are very proud!
